Description

Jörd is a limited edition bronze sculpture by the Icelandic sculptor Örn Porsteinsson inspired by Norse mythology. In Old Norse, the word jörd means earth, land. Jörd is therefore considered as Mother Earth, whose son is the thunder god Thor.

A rounded biomorphic shape is reminiscent of the spectacular Icelandic landscape, making Jörd a charming and aesthetically pleasing statement piece. The sculpture is available in a deep greenish blue patina.

Our bronze sculptures are cast using the lost wax method. Jörd is a limited edition bronze sculpture, each piece is numbered and signed.

ABOUT the designer

Örn Porsteinsson

Örn Porsteinsson is an Icelandic sculptor, based in Reykjavík. He is primarily known for his monumental work that is on display at several public spaces in Iceland. For Gardeco however, Örn has designed a beautiful line of smaller sculptures, called the Travel Pieces. The artist initially carves his designs from disposable materials that are later on translated into ceramics and bronze by Gardeco. Porsteinsson’s sculptures have rounded biomorphic shapes that reminisce of the spectacular Icelandic landscape. The artist is also inspired by the Icelandic mythology, which is why each of his designs carries the name of a Norse God.
